GELS
SJO (the Department of Foreign Languages) is an active member of Global Engineers Language Skills (GELS), which is an informal group of foreign languages teachers working at technical universities and engineering departments. This informal network was set up in 2015 and currently comprises academic teachers from 27 European institutions of higher learning. The mission of the group is fostering cooperation in order to develop and improve methods of teaching language skills and effective communication in foreign languages, with special focus given to the needs of future engineers.
Aims of GELS
GELS initiative focuses on preparaing students of engineering faculties for international studies and on teaching language skills needed when seeking employement in international companies in the future. Additionally, it aims to provide language teachers working with future engineers with methodological support and enhance their constant professional development, largely thanks to creation of a platform where teachers are able to share their professional experience and examples of good practice.
